He notes its importance as a means of keeping Tibetan culture alive for exiled Tibetans, and establishing cultural connections with non-Tibetans. He points out some improvements that could have been made in the production (e.g., a larger cast, with more women), and discusses how roles are generally assigned in Tibetan opera, where competition and the star system are rare.
